The Flight of Favor

(A Modern-Day Parable & Devotional Inspired by the dream of Lydia Adams)

There once was a woman named Naomi Fields, who came from an ordinary family in a quiet town. One day, news spread through the family that Naomi’s cousin, Jordan, had become a world-renowned basketball player. The nation adored him, and his name echoed through arenas across the land.

One afternoon, Naomi received an unexpected invitation—to fly on a private jet with Jordan to his next big game. When she arrived, there were only a few family members aboard, and she marveled at the honor. But as she looked out the window, she noticed something strange—the jet bore the emblem of Spirit Airlines, and upon its tail was the image of a Falcon. Naomi smiled quietly, recognizing that although it appeared ordinary, this flight was being carried by a higher Spirit.

Before takeoff, she bowed her head in prayer, committing the journey to God. Soon after, more family members arrived, surprised to see how close Naomi had grown to their famous relative. Yet Jordan, the star of the moment, lay humbly on the floor of the jet, resting before his assignment.

As they soared above the city, Naomi felt a peace come over her. When they reached the game, the family was ushered into seats that hung above the crowd—seats where their feet dangled, requiring trust and balance. The crowd cheered as their family was lifted high before all to see. Naomi realized then that their family was being honored not only because of Jordan’s gift, but because of the hand of God resting upon them.

Afterward, they were taken on a tour through a great structure. On one floor were chairs that offered rest and healing; on another, rooms filled with peace and beauty. Yet Naomi also saw one small cluttered room, barely large enough for a single person. She laughed and said, “This would be perfect for Aunt Helen,” remembering her aunt’s tendency to hold onto small, crowded spaces.

When the tour ended, Naomi wondered whether Jordan would carry them to every game or only the home ones. But as she pondered this, she heard a still, small voice whisper:

“The journey is not about the games—it’s about the glory carried by My Spirit. Stay close to Me, and I will carry you higher than fame ever could.”

📖 Devotional: “Carried by the Spirit”

Scripture:

“Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit, says the Lord of hosts.”
Zechariah 4:6 (ESV)

Naomi’s story reminds us that favor and elevation are never truly man-made—they are Spirit-carried. God sometimes allows one person in a family to rise, not just for their own glory, but as a sign that He has remembered the entire household.

In Naomi’s flight, the Spirit Airlines plane with the Falcon symbol represents the Holy Spirit—the true pilot of divine promotion. The roller-coaster seats symbolize a thrilling yet faith-filled season where our feet can’t touch the ground, teaching us to trust God midair. The arena of applause reminds us that when God lifts us up, He also exposes us—calling us to walk in humility and integrity under the spotlight.

The tour of rooms portrays the journey ahead: places of rest, cleansing, and abundance. But the small cluttered room warns that old habits and limited mindsets can’t fit in the new spaces God prepares for us.

Naomi’s laughter at her aunt’s room was a gentle reminder—don’t settle for cramped faith when God offers marble rest.

When God elevates someone in your circle, resist envy. Instead, discern what He’s doing and how you’re meant to participate. Sometimes, He’ll seat you close—not because you’re the star, but because you’re the intercessor who keeps the flight in prayer.

Reflection:

  • Where might God be inviting you to trust His Spirit to “carry the flight”?

  • Is there an “old room” of cluttered thinking that needs to be left behind?

Prayer:

Lord, teach me to soar by Your Spirit.
Keep me humble when honor comes, grounded when lifted, and prayerful in every new season.
May Your glory—not mine—be what others see when my life takes flight.
Amen.
